Reverend Fannie Smith

Honoring Mrs. Jacqueline Jackson

Part 1

Jacqueline Lavinia Davis Jackson keeps her identity while living in her husband's shadow. She protects her privacy because of her children's safety, schooling and future. Friends, family and consultants say she's a very strong woman who makes a decision that Reverend Jackson is the figure in their household.

Part 2

Jacqueline Lavinia Davis Jackson was born on March 7, 1944, in Fort Pierce, Florida. Her mother was an unwed migrant worker who earned 15 cents an hour picking beans. The couple met at North Carolina A and T in Greensboro when she was 17 and Jesse was 18 years old. Through the relationship, I always wanted to guide to ride up the white horse.

Part 3

Jacqueline met Jesse during her freshman year at AT&T. Friends, family and consultants say she's a very strong woman who makes a decision that Reverend Jackson is the figure in their household. Elitism has no place in the White House.

Part 4

Mrs. Jackson promised her son, Congressman Jesse L. Jackson, that she would write him every day. While in prison, her son shared some letters with other inmates. One day I hope to see them on display in a museum or library in Chicago.

Part 5

Jacqueline Jackson is very capable of continuing the work he has done with all of her children and securing the legacy of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. She is also recognized for her dedicated support during Rev. Jackson's final years. I believe that Mrs. J will continue her commitment to public service to inspire her children, friends and community.

Interviewed by Rev. Fannie Smith

Part 1

I think that kind of idea of talking to somebody and being able to open to somebody does start with the home. Just having that baseline listening ability to not judge off the bat. And I think listening is kind of the biggest aspect in that.

Part 2

Who or where can you say that you get your strength and ability to do the things that you do? It's kind of a mixture of all three. Definitely people who have encouraged me and who have a history. What is it about your academics as well as your athletic report?
